A Very Merry ACLU Christmas?

All of you ACLU haters out there will love this story about how college conservatives are fighting back using a special nativity scene.

Prepare to laugh... extremely hard! At least the college kids are creative!

Japan With A Nuclear Weapon?

Well, not yet at least. But the country of Japan is certainly capable of creating such weapons.

I think that this would be a good thing... the Japanese can start protecting themselves a little more. And Japan has to confront North Korea's threats to the nation.

Romney Should Talk About His Religion?

Well, at least according to the people over at Slate. That article says that Romney's Mormonism will be a liability for Romney like Catholicism was a liability for John F. Kennedy.

As an Irish Catholic from a family that loves the Kennedys the story caught my eye.

My goodness people it is 2006! I don't see how Mr. Romney being a Mormon would stop him from being a good president.

(Now other characteristics might stop him from being a good president... just not his faith!)

Senator Brownback And Sudan

Senator Brownback is putting his money where his mouth is... or rather taking his money away... when it comes to the horrible events in Sudan. The Senator is pulling money away from family investments that do business with the country of Sudan.

I like the approach. When the government doesn't respond publicly fight back privately.

Hat Tip TLAGPTO who is very concerned with Sudan as we all should be....

Airline Safety?

Class is about to start so I just wanted to dash off the link to this story concerning Muslims on a recent airline flight. They were acting very strange and kicked off the plane.

The Muslims claim that they were kicked off for the color of their skin. The airlines said they acted like potential terrorists... read the story yourself and decide.

A Moderate Muslim Stands Up Against Radicals

This man is a solid example of what a Moderate Muslim can be in America! But sadly he has been rejected by members of his mosque for his view on the Radicals in Islam.

It must be very difficult for him... in a new country with his line to his his religious center cut. But I wish this Moderate the best of luck and I will pray that he is not hurt by any Radicals.

YA FOR MODERATE MUSLIMS!

Russia Allows Husbands A Veto Over Wives' Abortions

An excellent decision by the Russian people! The father of the child has every right to have a say on what happens to that child. 1/2 of the child's genes are the father's.... a veto should be allowed.

It is his child too!

"Cut And Run": The Only Brave Thing To Do

...well at least according to Michael Moore. Hmm... interesting. What do you folks think?

I wonder if the Democrats are going to listen to him. My first thought is that they don't give a damn about the "Michael Moores" of their party.

United 93

Right now the girlfriend and I are watching the movie United 93 the tragic but heroic story of the events of September 11th.

Watching the flick I realize how inept our government can be in an emergency situation. Each time when one agency finds a solution to problem in the movie, another agency seems to block it. Too much red tape delays reaction time in difficult situations.

But the reactions of those passengers on the flight United 93 shows the ability of small groups coupled with technology can make a difference in this war on terror. The passengers communicated by way of cellphone to see the situation on the ground and then responded quickly against the terrorists. Smaller can sometimes be better...

(By the way, for a good discussion of how technology enables individuals to make a big difference in the world check out Glenn Reynolds' book An Army Of Davids).

I was very happy to read today that Pakistan's parliament has recently passed a law designed to protect and help women who have been raped. This is no small action in a country that has been dominated by Radical Islamic views towards women and that particular crime.

Well, the holiday season is fast approaching and people are pulling out their checkbooks to give a little something back to the community.

A law school friend of mine sent me this study showing how conservatives give more to charities than liberals do. I thought as much. Conservatives like the fact that private groups can help the less fortunate and don't need the government butting in!

Is the whole Mel Martinez thing getting you down? Go here for some great political jokes.

Senator Martinez Won't Be RNC "Attack Dog"

I think our dog Bear could take on Mel Martinez.

Census Numbers

I am a big fan of numbers and statistics... even though I was horrible at math in high school. The new census is out... and what does it have to say? Well, discover a nice summary here.

From the census the median income for:
White Households: $50, 622
Black Households: $30, 939
Hispanic Households: $36, 278
Asian Households: $60, 367

Go Asians! Kinda shocked that Hispanics did better than Blacks.

Chief Justice Impresses Miami Students

Look, Chief Justice Roberts is just a very great man. I am such a fan of the guy. After the Chief Justice's Miami speech I am sure many of the students down there are impressed with his skills as well.

The Poor Republican Party

After the horrible election, Rumsfeld's firing, and the poor choice of RNC chairman many conservatives are extremely angry at the GOP.

I wonder if this will turn more conservatives into Liberty Owls.

I could only hope!!

Trent Lott Running For Minority Whip Post

Goodness, the GOP is really having problems finding good leaders if they have to go back to this guy. But who knows? Perhaps Mr. Lott will be smarter this time around.

Nah, he is a Republican.

Bush Ruins Key Republican Chances

Wow, which side was President Bush playing on? Did the Democrats pay George off?

Did President Bush hand the election to the Democrats... by GASP! ..appearing with Republicans?

This post points to some good evidence that he did.

Conservative Base Ignored Once Again

President Bush? Hello? Are you even listening? Republicans do you fellas have your hearing aids in? Are they turned up?
SO THEN WHY AREN'T YOU LISTENING TO YOUR PARTY'S CONSERVATIVES?

My goodness, Martinez for RNC head? This guy is not even in the same league as Michael Steele!

The Republican party is a joke.

A Republican Plan To Counter Bush's Amnesty?

Screw it, let's just filibuster President Bush's plan to accept the invaders with loving arms.

The NY Times Said God Is Dead

I woke up this dreary Washington, D.C. morning to the sound of Elton John's song Levon. One set of lyrics stood as I was getting dressed:
He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said God is dead
Pretty powerful huh? On a personal note the song brings back memories of my father teaching my brother family member's birthday dates. My father, having been born on Christmas, gave my brother the hint that he was born on the day the NY Times said God was dead. Well, my poor brother ended up crying his little heart out. A good Catholic boy doesn't want to hear that God is dead!
The lyrics to the Elton John stuck with me as I walked to work today and passed the Hungarian embassy. The Hungarians have a banner out celebrating their revolution of 1956. The banner read in bold letters "Communism defeated." I thought immediately back to the song and realized that for a long time communism was the biggest threat against religion and God. My generation tends to easily forget the dangers the Soviet Union presented to the West.
Sadly that threat still exists when I saw this story concerning a China sub over at Drudge. The communist threat is still alive. China is preparing to challenge American authority around the world. Only if we will maintain the resolve of past generations will be be able to fly banners like the one I saw on the Hungarian embassy.
(As a side note I must also mention that perhaps Elton John himself wouldn't mind if God was dead!)

Joe Lieberman

I am still watching MSNBC. Joe Lieberman is on right now. I hope that he kicks some Democratic ass considering that they all campaigned against him.

If I was Joe Lieberman I would be pissed.

Both Parties Moved Right In The Past Election?

This editorial believes so! I could only hope!

This is dead on. The reason why the Democrats won is that both parties ignored their base.

John McCain And 2008

Right now I am watching a repeat of "Meet The Press" on MSNBC. John McCain is on. My goodness, this guy is such a politician ...where is the principle?

Come 2008 I hope that Conservatives can see through this fraud!

Bush Should Be Impeached?

Bush's Judges In Trouble After Democratic Take Over

One huge negative of the Democrats seizing control of the Senate is that some good conservative judges are going to have some trouble getting 51 votes. Check out this N.Y. Times article on the subject.

It is doubtful that the remaining Republicans in the Senate are going to get tough and protect some good judges. And there is also talk that Justice Stevens will step down soon. Oh the craziness!

The Commerce Clause And Abortion Bans

Earlier this evening my libertarian roomie gave me the heads up on this very interesting post over at The Volokh Conspiracy. The post shows how liberal justices on the Supreme Court are concerned that abortion bans might stretch the commerce clause very thin.

As my roomie said, "Didn't these justices know that their past decisions to expand the commerce clause would come back and bite them in the ass later on?"

I guess not!

Religion And Government On A Rainy Sunday

Today was my type of weather day in Washington, D.C. Rainy and cold. I just hope that it gets colder and eventually snows (which sadly our nation's capital received very little last year). Walking around the national monuments in the snow would be very pretty.

A perfect day to attend mass over at the Shrine. Attending Catholic mass in the nation's capital. While waiting for mass to start I thinking of how religion and government should relate to each other.

Sitting there waiting for mass to begin I realized that what this nation needs is more people who are devoted to a faith. Whatever religion or belief system someone has helps a person weather the storms of everyday life. I think that a large part of why people are depressed today is that they have lost faith in their future.

So I would love for people to be more religious. But combine religion with government? No way.

This past week there was an excellent article in Newsweek concerning Christianity and politics over the years. The conclusion of the article was that while the religious benefited the politicians the politicians did not benefit the religious very much.

Seems to me that when religion is combined with politics both are corrupted. Both are worse off.

I wonder if it will snow on Christmas Eve this year.

A Roundup Of Libertarian Election Results

I apologize for not posting this earlier. A great roundup of each libertarian candidate and how well they did.

Not too shabby for a 3rd Party right?

Voters Are Sick Of "Macho Politics By Marshmellow Men"?

Read Maureen Dowd's NY Times editorial on the election here. Yes, please read it a few times over.

Then disagree with everything she says. Ms. Dowd is sadly just another liberal who doesn't get it. Voters want tough politicians that stand by their principles. The Republicans didn't do that this time around and that is why they lost.

Andy Griffith Sues Andy Griffith

"Waaa... Waaa! Don't Steal My Name!"

Yes, you read that title correctly.

I don't like the "Andy Griffith Show." It is not very funny at all. Anytime I see the show on TV I let out a cry of pain. Growing up on Long Island the owner of the local car wash had the police car that was used in that show. Boy, did I hate that police cruiser.
Well, it seems that Andy Griffith is bringing a lawsuit against someone for changing his name to "Andy Griffith"

I hope that the star of that pathetic show loses his lawsuit.

Radical Muslims In Great Britain

The British are our most important allies. What happens to their country might be the future for ours.

If that is the case then this story is even more disturbing. Radical Muslims infest the host country in their attempt to take it over and force the rest of the citizens into lives of slavery.

A Funny Election Cartoon

Bingo, hits the nail right on the head. Top notch.

Harold Ford The Head Of The DNC?

At least one big Democrat thinks it would be a smart move.

It would be fascinating if the Republicans countered with Michael Steele as the head of the RNC.

Voters Attack Kelo Last Tuesday

... and for the most part won!

Thank goodness that voters and property owners are responding back to the Supreme Court's infamous Kelo decision. I must admit that anytime I hear of a person standing up for property rights it brings a tear of happiness to my eye. I am overjoyed.

The Constitution Is A Dead Document

A fascinating article detailing Justice Scalia's belief on our U.S. Constitution.

As always Justice Scalia is very entertaining no matter if you agree with him or not.

Rumsfeld Rumblings

President Bush screwed up again when he fired Donald Rumsfeld. Now the GOP is extremely angry with the President. In addition it seems that Mr. Rumsfeld is going to be in some legal trouble.

Way to hang a loyal member out to dry Mr. President.

Now, I must be honest. I never liked Mr. Rumsfeld. I don't think he was the right man for the job.

But if Mr. Bush was confident in the man then he should have stuck by Mr. Rumsfeld.

Instead we see Bush cater to the Democrats and give up Mr. Rumsfeld. Is this an attempt by the President to become popular?

What a disgrace to the Oval Office.

For Muslims In The U.S., It's The American Way

... well you certainly would hope so! I found this CAIR news article to be a little odd (especially for the 2nd to last paragraph).

President Bush Reveals That He Is A Total Loser

.... hey, sorry for the juvenile heading but I am really upset that President Bush is supporting a raise in the minimum wage.

Has this President done anything that was conservative? My goodness!

The GOP And Libertarians

Well look what happened when the Republican party didn't listen to libertarians. Libertarians got angry and voted elsewhere.

Check out the story here.

The Morning After

... okay really the afternoon after.

Well, my predictions are on course to becoming true. If you folks don't remember I said that the Democrats would gain both the House and the Senate. The Senate is still in doubt but last I checked Mr. Webb in Virginia was ahead (if only by a small margin). It looks like Montana barely went to the Democrats. Prepare for weeks of lawyers getting paid big bucks to figure this thing out.

With that having been said, some thoughts on the election:

Liberals Still Don't Get It:
After reading some posts over at Dailykos and other liberal sites I came to the realization that Liberals still don't understand Americans. This election wasn't a rejection of conservative principles at all... it was a rejection of the GOP. The Republicans abandoned their true conservative principles and paid the price for it. Look at the potential Senate gains: Bob Casey a Pro-Life Conservative Democrat, Jim Webb a former Reagan appointee, and Joe Lieberman a Iraq war supporter crushing Netroots choice Ned Lamont. Not really the wacky liberals that the folks of DailyKos love.

Yes, yesterday voters were punishing anyone with a small "R" after his name. In Rhode Island the Republican Senator lost even though he voted against President Bush many times.

Who Was The Biggest Winner?
Surprise, it's a Republican! I think that this election will be great for some folks like John McCain. Now Mr. McCain has a House controlled by the Democrats that he can compare himself to come '08. (And let's face it... even Mr. McCain will look conservative compared to the Democrats in the House). This is exactly what Mr. McCain needed.

Come to think of it add illegals too. Now that the Republican House is out of the way President Bush and the Senate can grant amnesty to the invaders from the South. Get prepared to press #1 on your phones for the English option.

Who Fought The Good Fight But Ended Up Short?
I was very disappointed over Michael Steele's loss in Maryland. Mr. Steele was doing pretty well until the big urban areas came in and then it was all over. But then again I think that Mr. Steele faced a huge challenge... trying to win over a very blue state in a year that Republicans were hated. I think we shall see some great things later on from the Man of Steele.

What Was The Most Important Ballot Measure?
Nope, not gay marriage being shot down in Virginia. And nope not gay marriage being given a shot in Arizona.

The most important ballot measure was JAIL 4 JUDGES in South Dakota. Thank goodness this horrible idea was shot down.

Though I must admit I am very saddened that the abortion ban in North Dakota didn't stick. Then again I don't know how much of a chance it had without an exception for the life of the mother.

This article written by Neal Boortz is excellent.

Voter Intimidation

Finally the claims of intimidation are here! And they happen to be in our wonderful commonwealth of Virginia (surprise surprise).

Now, these potential problems need to be taken extremely seriously of course. But I gotta wonder, could this be just a Democratic tactic to cast doubt upon the election as a whole?

I would not be shocked at all.

Republicans Are Uncontrolled Cannibals

From the article:

"It may seem harsh to accuse those who plan to vote for the GOP of being uncoordinated, shuffling cannibals who won't stay dead."

Read the rest of the article here.

While I agree with the author that the Republican plan isn't very good it would be easier for Democrats to be elected if they had some sort of plan themselves.

Voters don't really have much of a choice at all today when they come to the polls.

Choice #1: A Party that spends like drunken sailors on shore leave and supports staying in Iraq until we can leave.
Choice #2: A Party that spends like drunken sailors on shore leave and supports staying in Iraq until we can leave.

What Would Happen If The Democrats Lost?

... the liberals at the NY Times would have to commit suicide.

Well, not exactly but close. The Democrats certainly have a lot riding on this election. If they can't win today with everything in their favor then I think that Democrats should quit and find another line of work.

GOP Candidate Hides From President Bush

I am surprised that more of this doesn't happen. This election year Bush is just poison to the Republicans.

My advice? Stay away from him even today!

Voting Machine Problems

Well, the magical day is upon us... and already we have problems in some states. And in some cases Florida has turned to paper ballots! Oh no! Not this again!

You would think that the election officials would perhaps check their systems before Tuesday. Hang in there... it might be a very interesting day.

Christmas Gifts And Politics

Yes, Christmas might seem a while away but really once you get to Thanksgiving the time goes very quickly. I must prepare and start buying gifts right now. I, like every other true red, white and blue American man, usually wait until the very last minute and then purchase whatever junk I can find.

I don't think that method is going to cut it this year.

By the way, if you folks on the Internets wanted to buy me something (as a thank you for this wonderful blog I have produced) check this out.

Okay, so it is a little pricey! Can you put a price on appreciation?

Pollster.com vs. AShiningCity

Well, the magical and powerful Pollster.com says that I am wrong concerning who will control the Senate.

Far be it from me to challenge Pollster.com but I can't believe that the race in Tennessee is leaning Republican. That sucker is too close to call Pollster.com! You will not outsmart me Pollster.com!

This will be settled tomorrow.

ACLU Complains To International Body

... again.

Undocumented workers my ass. These illegal immigrants simply don't have many legal rights in this country. And here is an idea to the whizkids at the ACLU... the moment that these workers get rights they are going to be unemployed. The only reason why employees find them attractive is because they can treat these folks like slaves.

Hmm... could that be the reason that amnesty was passed but a border wall was not funded? The ACLU will give themselves a high five once illegals currently in the country receive rights. But wait a minute, the big corporations will just fire the old immigrants that have gained amnesty and wait for more illegals to cross the unprotected border and hire them.

Nah, big corporations and the Republican party always want the best for this country. I forgot that...
Josh Jennings For Congress

Forget Democrat vs. Republican this year! Vote for Josh Jennings! A true American hero indeed.

Abortion Cases Before The Supreme Court

The American Constitution Society had an excellent press briefing on the abortion cases before the Supreme Court recently.

Check it out. There is even a professor from my school that speaks! (View her video, she was excellent).

By the way, many Republican voters are holding their noses and voting for the GOP tomorrow in order so that conservative judges can be appointed. There is also a rumor going around D.C. that says Justice Stevens might be stepping down for health problems. Complete conservative seizure of the Supreme Court? It might happen. If it does it would be the one decent thing Mr. Bush has accomplished.

Wow, the election plot thickens.

The GOP, Illegals, and Elections

Would the National GOP be content to lose... as long as it means that they could keep their pro-illegal immigrant stance? This writer says yes.

I don't know if I would go that far. But I do know that Republicans are going to have trouble getting their voters to come out Tuesday because of the party's weakness on border security.

Election Predictions

Today is like Christmas Eve! Is everyone excited about tomorrow night? I know I am pumped.

Check out the following links for some good predictions on who will control Congress after Tuesday is over.
Take careful note to Dick Morris' NY Post editorial. Mr. Morris knows his politics and I am doubtful that he will be wrong here.

As a side note I am making the following prediction: The GOP will lose both the House and the Senate. The one bright spot will be in Maryland where Michael Steele will take a Senate seat for the Republicans.

If Steele can win in Maryland you gotta figure the man has a chance of getting on a national presidential ticket in the upcoming years. I heard him speak last year and I was very impressed (and the man is Roman Catholic... you know I like that!)

A Great Joke

As a humble student of the law I love any good law joke. The following is one of the best I have heard:

Q. Officer, did you see my client fleeing the scene?
A. No, sir. But I subsequently observed a person matching the description of the offender, running several blocks away.
Q. Officer, who provided this description?
A. The officer who responded to the scene.
Q. A fellow officer provided the description of this so-called offender. Do you trust your fellow officers?
A. Yes, sir. With my life.
Q. With your life? Let me ask you this then, officer. Do you have a room where you change your clothes in preparation for your daily duties?
A. Yes, sir, we do!
Q. And do you have a locker in the room?
A. Yes, sir, I do.
Q. And do you have a lock on your locker?
A. Yes, sir.
Q. Now why is it, officer, if you trust your fellow officers with your life, you find it necessary to lock your locker in a room you share with these same officers?
A. You see, sir — we share the building with the court complex, and sometimes lawyers have been known to walk through that room.

The courtroom erupted in laughter, and a prompt recess was called. The officer on the stand has been nominated for this year’s “Best Comeback” line — and we think he’ll win.

Vernon Robinson For Congress

A great political commercial. This really would hit home with some people that I know.

A Suicide Bomber At Penn

... at least at the President of the University's Halloween Party.

The party is just shameful. Would a student dressed up a Klansman be allowed to attend?

I doubt it.
