Fred Thompson For President

From the Foxnews Interview today:

THOMPSON: I want to see how my colleagues who are on the campaign trail do now, what they say, what they emphasize, what they're addressing, and how successful they are in doing that, and whether or not they can carry the ball in next November, and mainly whether or not they can reach the American people, inspire the American people to do the tough things that we're going to need to do.
...
CHRIS WALLACE: And if you search your soul and if you listen to what they're all saying and it doesn't seem to you that they're catching on, making sense — whatever — then what?
THOMPSON: Well, I'm going to give it serious consideration.

That sounds like some political speak for... yes.

If Mr. Thompson were to run it would certainly shake the field up. There was talk on the Internets that Mr. Thompson wouldn't run because his buddy McCain was in the race already. Well, look at McCain's recent poll numbers. From the interview it looks like Fred Thompson is thinking that he has to step in and kick some butt.

I don't know if I am going to vote for him. But we haven't done too badly in the past with electing a conservative actor as president of the United States.

Rudy Giuliani

It looks like a lot of "Republicans" are falling in love with Rudy according to this poll.

Wow, I hope that poll is wrong. The only thing I can see that Rudy is good at is talking tough against Radical Muslims. I will give him that.

But the rest of his platform is terrible (from a conservative point of view).

If Rudy is the GOP choice I promise there is going to be a splinter of some kind in the party. I can't imagine that the regular people in the GOP will tolerate Mr. Giuliani's liberalism.

The 2008 American Auto Show

We get a lot of magazines at the apartment. We have magazine piles stacked up throughout (and I must say they are easy to trip into!).

Every once in a while something good is actually written in them.

I found this short article in Time magazine detailing the candidates as one of the most entertaining I have read in months.

Ron Paul In 2008

Hmm.. Mr. Paul could be one candidate that I get behind in the upcoming election.

He is certainly for smaller government. I think his voice in the upcoming debates can help voters think twice about the stances that some of the leading Republicans are taking.

Fred Thompson For President?

Recently I have heard a lot of buzz concerning Fred Thompson for President.

Yes, that Fred Thompson who starred in "Law & Order" and "The Hunt For Red October."

I have to do some research to see if the man is right on the immigration and Radical Islam issues. If Mr. Thompson is... then perhaps I will support him.

So far there are no other people to support!

Romney Flips Again

This time on the issue of gun control. I really hope that Republicans are watching this guy's words and actions. Mr. Romney is attempting to play the part of the GOP's savior.... but he is anything but!

The Real Romney?

It seems like a lot of people are getting behind Mr. Romney for President. I, for one, am not.

A Side Project

Edwards Shows Why He Is A Threat

I have always been impressed with John Edwards. I think that he is a great speaker. Very JFK like. Plus Edwards knows the power of the New Media. He even announced that he was running first by posting a video on YouTube.

I know what many of the readers are now thinking: "But AShiningCity, John Edwards is a dirty Trial Lawyer! Trial Lawyers are slime! We can't have him for president!" (This post here voices some of those concerns). As a legal guy I am not that concerned that the man was a trial lawyer.

Others believe that Edwards doesn't have a shot in the dark...they believe that the man has a losing message.

These people are wrong for doubting Edwards' ability to win elections. Bottom line? Hillary and Obama better watch out for an Edwards attack!

What I Want For The New Year

Yes, I did have a wonderful Christmas but I do want a few more gifts.

Here are the issues that I want the President elected in 2008 to care about:

1.) The spread of Radical Islam:
Notice I did not say "terrorism." Radical Islam is the disease and terrorism is just a symptom of that particular disease. Check out what the Radicals are doing now in Europe. Within a generation Radical Islam could take over Europe... the United States can not stand by when this occurs. (Here is a great book that I am reading now on the topic and a review of the book)

2.) Decrease In Government And In Spending:
President Bush screwed the Republican party on this issue. Now candidates running for President don't seem to care that their plans offer just more spending... it has become the status quo. A fresh new voice on a traditional Republican idea is needed in this area.

3.) Conservative Judges:
With Justice Stevens most likely leaving in the next few years we need a president who understands the importance of the Supreme Court and acts to push conservative Pro-Life judges into any vacancies.

4.) Border Security:
Here is another area that President Bush failed the Republican Party and the nation as a whole. We need a president who recognizes that a strong border fence and defense is needed before we even start talking about what to do with all the illegals in this country.

5.) Better Relations With India:
For years the United States has been providing support for Pakistan...a decision that made more sense during the Cold War compared to now. Our next president must understand that India needs to be the United States' great ally in the 21st century. Here's why:

• India Is A Diverse And Active Democracy
• India Understands The Dangers Of Radical Islam
• India Can Stand Up Against An Expanding Communist China
• India Prides Itself On Educating Scientists And Engineers

Winning The White House In 2008

Right now the girlfriend and I are down in Atlanta visiting the parents. My brother is back from a semester at Notre Dame so it was great to see him. He is really enjoying studying up in South Bend.

Now that I have a few days off from work/school I have the opportunity to read some nice political books. This book is a keeper and seems like some solid advice for anyone running in 2008. The book has a great description of what it calls the "Freak Show" (AKA the "new media" --bloggers etc).

I hope I am at least a little bit of the part of the "Freak Show" with this blog.

A Real Conservative Is Running?

As I have written previously I am a little upset about the field of Republicans for the 2008 presidential election. It seems like it is full of "compassionate conservatives" (read: big spenders who like God).

It seems like the Republican party has lost its way. The party has forgotten about the principle of limited government.

I found this article today hinting that Governor Gilmore from Virginia is thinking of running. I don't know a lot about the man but I am pretty sure he is more conservative that McCain and the bunch of big spending RINOs we have in office now.

We really need the Liberty Owls now don't we?

Newt On Free Speech

... and some other topics. This guy is still my #1 pick for President come 2008. Perhaps we can have a man with some true conservative economic values in the White House for a change.

I certainly hope that Mr. Gingrich decides to run. It would certainly make for lively debate which is exactly what this country needs.

Who Is Running In 2008?

I know that 2008 is a long time away but we already have politicians jumping into the race. Do you folks need a list? I got it right here.

By the way I am starting early in my hatred for Obama. If I hear anything more about Senator Obama and how he will become the next president I am going to go crazy. I guess I am the only one who thinks that Obama isn't all set to be elected president. I am sure that in the future I will have some tasty stories about the man up on this blog.

John McCain's War On Bloggers

Hey look, I am not a big fan of John McCain. But I know that he is in front when it comes to the GOP nod for '08 so I read stories about the man.

This report concerns McCain's bill that would punish bloggers for "illegal content." It will hurt everyone-liberals and conservatives alike. I encourage all those out there who love blogging to research the bill and notify others concerning it.

If this is what he does as senator then just think what he would do if he was president.
