The Poor Obama-maniacs

Unless Hillary Clinton pulls off a miracle it looks like Obama will be the Democratic nominee for president. Don't count Hillary out yet, the Clintons always seem to have a trick or two up their sleeves. But things certainly look bad for them.

So we will have Obama. Just the mere mention of any of the following and white liberals under the age of 30 go wild: "Yes, We Can", "Hope", "Change."

Obama certainly is a brilliant speaker. Lots of folks have fallen head over heels for this guy (literally, notice the trend of supporters fainting at Obama rallies). Shouldn't I at least respect the fact that Obama is getting people interested in politics again?

No, I don't respect Obama. I think that the Democrats deserve better.

After 8 years of President Bush and the war in Iraq... Democrats deserve better. Democrats deserve a candidate that has both substance and experience. They deserve a candidate that actually has the ability to put his rhetoric to work to implement the party's ideas.

Sadly for them, Obama is just not that guy.

I live in DC. I go to law school. I have a lot of liberal friends. I would hate to see them crushed when Obama is shown to be a phony. These people really believe in him.

But come on folks. Do you really think the Republicans are not going to paint this man as a wacky liberal who is disconnected with the problems of this country?

Hell, the Republican machine was able to crush John Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran and someone who served in the senate ten times as long as Obama. What do you think the Republicans are going to do to a man who has served a few years in the senate and is as liberal as George McGovern?

On top of that Obama will be running against John McCain a man who is a war hero and respected across the board. In fact, I think that McCain was stuck as a POW longer than Obama was a senator.

So maybe, in what should be a slam dunk for Democrats... the 2008 presidential elections... the Dems will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. In the process a few liberals are going to have their hopes shattered.
